General FAQs
What grades are offered by Georgia’s New Horizons New Directions Preparatory Academy (NHND), powered by K12 Private Academy (K12PA)?
We’re excited to welcome students in grades K–8! Our program is designed for virtual learning, so your child can thrive from the comfort of home while receiving a high-quality education.
What subjects will my child study?
The core courses are English/language arts, math, science, and history. There are also elective courses, including art, music, and world languages. Middle school students can also take career readiness courses and other engaging options to inspire your child’s interests.
What are the world language choices?
For younger students in grades K–5, your child can choose between Spanish and Chinese. Students in grades 6–8 have even more options, including French, German, Spanish, and Chinese—all taught by passionate teachers who make learning a new language fun!
What does it cost to attend NHND?
We believe in making education affordable while providing a quality experience. Full-time tuition for grades K–8 is $6,500 per year, reflecting our commitment to offering private school quality at a fair price.
Are there tuition assistance or financial aid options?
Yes! The Georgia Promise Scholarship provides eligible families with $6,500 to help cover tuition. Learn more about the program details, eligibility information, and how to apply in our scholarship guide.
Does NHND provide textbooks and other instructional materials?
Absolutely! We provide all the textbooks and instructional materials your child will need, so there’s no extra cost or stress. These materials are tailored to your child’s grade level and the courses they’re enrolled in.
Can my child work at their own pace?
Yes, flexibility is one of the wonderful things about our program! While there are minimum progress and pacing guidelines to keep students on track, your child can move ahead at their own speed, especially if they’re ready for more challenging content.
How much time do students spend on the computer?
In the younger grades, many of the online lessons include offline work. Elementary students spend about 50–60% of their time online. As students reach middle school, they spend more time online, though we always aim to balance screen time with other types of learning.
Do you provide curriculum for children with special needs?
At the moment, we don’t offer special education programs, but we are always here to help parents navigate the best learning solutions for their child. We encourage families to reach out and discuss their child’s needs directly with us!
Can you accommodate the accelerated learning needs of my advanced learner?
Absolutely! One of the great things about our program is its flexibility. We assess each child’s grade level during enrollment, which helps us tailor the curriculum to meet them where they are—whether they need to move faster in a subject or explore topics more deeply.
How do students interact socially?
Even in a virtual setting, socialization is key! Your child will have plenty of opportunities to connect with classmates through online discussions, group projects, and even school clubs. Plus, K12 online national clubs provide fun ways for students to meet others with similar interests!
Will this program intrude into my home?
We understand how important your family’s privacy is. There are no home visits, and we respect your space. Our goal is to give your child a wonderful educational experience without causing any disruption. If you ever feel the program isn’t the right fit, you can choose to withdraw at any time.
